Home and Harvest at Seven Oaks

Home and Harvest at Seven Oaks

The season that gathers a valley also gathers a neighborhood.

As fall arrives, October gives us the first taste of the holiday season, starting with harvest across Kern County. Trucks stacked with bins pull onto Taft Highway before sunrise and the almond hullers run past dark. Table grapes and pomegranates are picked, the first citrus starts to color, and for a few weeks the whole valley works on the same schedule.

Harvest has always been a collective effort. Crews in the rows, families feeding them, neighbors lending a helping hand as the days get shorter. The long days produce plenty, and communities gather around the bounty, celebrating the efforts that brought them there.

Bolthouse Properties is honored to steward productive farmland, keeping it in agricultural use, with local growers planting carrots, garlic, and other ground crops right up to the edge of the neighborhoods. The same stewardship goes into the retail centers, parks, and neighborhoods next to them. Belcourt Village was laid out with a plaza, wide sidewalks, and room for a crowd, and in October it gets plenty of use. Consider this your open invitation, neighbor.

October in Seven Oaks

Kicking off on Saturday, October 3rd, AutumnFest returns to Belcourt Village for its second year. Kids can pick a pumpkin from the Cherry Acres patch, have their faces painted, try the pumpkin toss, and build a memento at the craft table. Belcourt Village businesses will be ready with their seasonal offerings, activities for kids, and many raffle opportunities throughout the day. Any AutumnFest experience would not be complete without the music. The Happy Five Little German Band will fill the area with polka and festive songs, while The Habbits close out the event with tunes that travel.

As if there was not enough fall music coming your way, the October Music Series is excited to bring four more Wednesday evenings of music, community, and space to play at The Point. Bring a chair, a friend, grab a bite to eat, and catch a new band each week.

Between the music nights, the countdown to Halloween weekend gets more exciting. Seven Oaks goes all out to celebrate the season, and yes, with all the candy too. It starts on Saturday, October 24th, when Belcourt Seven Oaks families head to the Center Club for Trunk-or-Treat. Costumes on, buckets ready, and one decorated trunk after another.

Then on Thursday, October 29th at 5:00 p.m., Hoffmann Hospice brings the Halloweenie Parade back to Belcourt Village, using the plaza we built for gatherings like it. Hundreds of costumed dogs and their people, a costume contest, and opportunities to support the hospice. Two nights later, trick-or-treaters will move door to door across the Seven Oaks neighborhoods.

From the events to the chairs set out on the porch, fall brings plenty to look forward to, with friends and neighbors at the heart of it. From harvest to gathering, it all stays close to home at Seven Oaks.
