In Memoriam

Stephan John DeBranch
Senior Vice President of Development, 2005-2015

In November, 2015, Steve DeBranch, Bolthouse Properties, LLC’s Senior Vice-President of Development, returned home to his Heavenly Father after a long, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. A visionary land developer, Steve was one of the original three employees of Bolthouse Properties, LLC, and an inherent part of the fabric of Bolthouse Properties, LLC. Through his intellect, leadership and foresight he was instrumental in shaping who we are today and who we will be well into the future.

From the time of his diagnosis to his final days, Steve continued to work, plan, and train those around him while providing constant inspiration to all of us at Bolthouse Properties, LLC. He never complained, never lost hope, never stopped smiling and never lost his positive attitude. Steve often declared that “I am not going to worry until they (his doctors) give me something to worry about.” His strength fighting this disease was astounding to those of us who watched as he continued to work in the midst of treatments, exhaustion, sickness and countless trips to Los Angeles.

A trained civil engineer and proud Cal Poly alumni, Steve worked for over 35 years in land development in Bakersfield. He was instrumental in developing the beautiful master planned community of Seven Oaks, first during his tenure at Castle & Cooke and later at Bolthouse Properties, LLC. His other accomplishments included his planning and development work on the Riverlakes Ranch project in Northwest Bakersfield and significant contributions to the creation of the West Ming Specific Plan. Steve’s attention to detail, critical eye, intellect, passion, and enthusiasm were displayed in every aspect of his work. He was often the first to the office and the last to leave, embodying a strong work ethic. He will be deeply missed but not forgotten.

He accomplished much as a professional engineer/land developer all while being a devoted husband, father to his three children and new grandfather. He fought and survived much longer than most diagnosed with pancreatic cancer so that he could have as much time as possible with his loved ones. Finally, he remained faithful to his God even when the final outcome didn’t provide the complete healing for which we all hoped and prayed.

As 2nd Timothy declares, Steve can now say “I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.”
